From day one, CoverTree made Lob’s API the backbone of its communications. Every time a policy is issued, a webhook triggers document generation, and the finished PDF is automatically sent through Lob.
1) Event-driven automation
CoverTree’s policy admin system emits webhooks (e.g., policy issued). An automated flow generates the full PDF packet, submits it programmatically to Lob for printing and mailing, and eliminates any manual UI or file exports.
2) Guardrails that prevent waste
Mistakes happen. If a blast is scheduled to the wrong segment. Lob’s cancellation window gives CoverTree a short period to stop jobs before print, cutting cost and risk. “Being able to say, ‘wait, those five shouldn’t go out’ and cancel them during the window has been really helpful,” says Reilly.
3) Live delivery signals
Through Lob webhooks, the team confirms when mail enters the USPS stream and gets alerts if pieces are rerouted or bounce. Ops can immediately reach out to customers to fix bad addresses.
4) Audit-ready proof
When letter.mailed fires, CoverTree automatically stores the print proof, the final PDF, and the timestamp in their audit system. “For DOI complaints or audits, we can pull the exact proof and PDF. That paper trail has been extremely valuable.”

- Evaluate additional use cases (e.g., newsletters or selective marketing mail) where operational rigor and API control are still must-haves.
