Bleed size

Bleed is extra space that allows for colors or background images to be printed to the edge of your piece.

Trim size

This is the finished size of your mail piece (before folding).

Safe zone

Ensure all text and important elements are inside the safe zone.

Address Information

This is where your address and barcode information will appear – if any artwork is placed in this space it will not be printed.

More helpful tips for designing your mail piece

Use high resolution images

300dpi is required for printing. Images with higher dpi’s should be adjusted to 300 to prevent file sizes from becoming too large.

Use Google Fonts

Lob supports all Google fonts by default – or you can host your own licensed font and provide the link.

Use your preferred design tool

In addition to Figma, you can use Adobe InDesign or Illustrator to create your mail piece – just follow the specs provided and upload as a PDF to your Lob account.

Don’t add crop marks or other printer’s marks

Our platform automatically adds these after you upload your file.

Use 40% opacity and above

For the best output, avoid using low opacities.

Use appropriate line weights

We recommend using lines 1px and above for best results.
